Identify the setup before moving anything

Write down whether you have two separate machines, a stacked pair or a single laundry center. Include pedestals and any other pieces that should leave. A stacked pair may look like one object but still require separation and handling as two heavy appliances. A photo of the full installation helps explain the job without guessing at its construction.

Check the dryer’s fuel type

Tell the provider whether the dryer is electric or gas. Whirlpool recommends a professional appliance technician for disconnecting and reconnecting gas lines. Arrange that work in advance and make clear who is responsible for it. A collection appointment does not establish that a hauling crew will carry out gas or electrical work. Account for water and loose parts

A washing machine can retain water after its last cycle. Follow its manual for preparation and have hoses and connections handled appropriately. Remove clothing, detergent bottles and anything stored on the machine. Keep loose accessories together and identify which parts should travel with a machine that may be reused. Do not assume that unplugging it means it is ready to move.

Map the route from the laundry room

An upstairs machine, a narrow laundry closet or a tight turn beside a stair rail can change the handling plan. Record floor level, stairs, clear doorway widths and the distance to an accessible loading position. Where a building requires service-elevator reservations, make the arrangement with management before scheduling the move. That requirement belongs to the building, not every property in a city.

Copy these headings into your notes: machine count; installation type; dryer fuel; disconnected status; floor and stairs; doorway and turn photographs; pedestal or stacking hardware; loading position; preferred timing. Fill in what you know and mark uncertain details for assessment rather than guessing.

Agree on the scope before pickup

Ask whether the quoted work includes separating the stack, moving pedestals and removing vent material. If either machine is intended for reuse, check the manufacturer’s transport requirements, including shipping hardware for the washer where applicable. Confirm preparation and access with the provider before the scheduled day.
